This lab is involved in research and development on high power lamp pumped Nd:YAG and Fiber Lasers. We have developed a robust 250 W average power, 2-20 ms pulse duration and 5 kW peak power pulsed industrial Nd:YAG laser with 400 μm time shared fiber optic beam delivery. A lamp pumped CW Nd:YAG laser with 880 W output power and with 600 μm fiber optic beam delivery for various material processing applications has also been developed. We have upgraded 250 W average power industrial Nd:YAG laser with 500 W average power, 10 kW peak power pulsed Nd:YAG laser with fiber optic beam delivery for enhancing material processing capabilities. With in-house developed fiber coupled industrial Nd:YAG lasers, cutting of 18 mm thick ss sheets and welding up to a depth of 4 mm has been performed. We are also working on development of application specific fixtures for material processing applications with fiber coupled high average power Nd:YAG lasers. Research and development on CW and pulsed fiber lasers is also underway. We have achieved up to 50 W CW output at 1096 nm from Yb-doped fibers with an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 70%. We are also working on Er-Yb co-doped fiber lasers with an output wavelength of 1540-1570 nm for medical applications. Several trun key goals are being executed for industry and DAE units.
