Laser Systems Engineering Division

Laser Systems Engineering Division (LSED) works on design and development of copper laser systems, dye lasers and applications of these lasers in the area of interest of Department of Atomic Energy. Many models of Elemental Copper Vapour Lasers, Copper Bromide Lasers and Copper HyBrID Lasers, with single unit average laser from 20 W to 100 W are developed. These lasers operate with pulse repetition rates of (5 to 20 kHz) and pulse width of typically 40 ns. The laser wavelengths of these units are at 510 nm (green) and 578 nm (yellow).

Tunable dye lasers with varied specifications, in terms of tuning range, optimized wavelength, and laser line width are developed. The laser wavelength spectrum covered include wavelength from 680 nm to 540 nm. Single mode dye lasers with line width < 300 MHz are developed. Computer controlled wavelength tuning is provided for these lasers.

High quality beams of second harmonic wavelength of copper lasers and dye lasers are generated and used for various applications. One of the prominent applications is development of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) inscription set up. Various FBGs are developed for sensor applications using this set up.

Instrumentation is developed for spectroscopic studies of Li, Eu etc. The instrumentation includes, time of flight mass spectrometer, constant fraction discriminator, hollow cathode discharge lamps etc.
